This article examines the role of visual narrative in conveying social and emotional context using the film Les Miserables (2019, directed by Ladj Ly) as an example. The focus is on the analysis of such material signs as color correction, chiaroscuro, orange objects, and aerial photography. These visual elements are considered as key means of creating an atmosphere of tension and revealing the social model expressed in the film. A semiotic analysis of the identified elements and an appeal to general scientific methods of cognition allow us to conclude that the visual narrative performs not only an aesthetic but also a conceptual function, allowing the viewer to more deeply understand the themes of social injustice, disunity, and oppression raised in the film.
