The article is devoted to the consideration of the phenomenon of "other" in Japanese culture on the example of analyzing anime - animation culture, which has become a peculiar way of expressing and comprehending the Japanese worldview. The anime series "Another" (2012) was chosen as the main material for the study, which reveals the phenomenon under study in a number of key elements: title, plot, visual series, cultural references, etc. The study revealed the influence of Japanese mythology on the understanding of the Other in the animated work as something inexplicable, mysterious, otherworldly", before the forces of which man demonstrates helplessness. These forces cannot be defeated or destroyed, all that man can do is to try to make a pact with them, to establish some balance of life and death.
